Ashley’s Glamorous New Orleans Wedding Hair & Makeup

5 Oct

When my good friend Ashley asked me to be her makeup artist and hairstylist for her August wedding in New Orleans, I was elated! And, when she requested one of my all time favorite looks, I was even more excited!

With her traditional ceremony in a landmark New Orleans Episcopal cathedral and her outdoor terrace reception right in the heart of the French Quarter, her notion for all-out old school glamour was spot on. Inspired by the classic glamour of her surroundings, a matte red lip, winged liquid liner and glowing skin were her must-haves that day, as she and her wedding party got ready at the gorgeous Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans’ historic French Quarter.

If you know me, you also know that my love and affection for a perfectly placed top-knot bun runs deep in my blood. So you can imagine my zeal for this beauty that we created. My favorite thing about Ashley’s bun is that it’s modern and elegant, but just messy enough to keep it youthful and fresh. Ashley had these sweet baby hairs that (as you can see) have a bit of a mind of their own. Rather than forcing them down with too much product, we let them run free, which in my opinion, makes the look all the more her.

Ashley wanted to share the love and glamour with her beautiful bridesmaids as well … sultry eyes and that signature matte red lip for everyone! Ashley’s mother-in-law got a glowing complexion and pretty smokey eyes to go with her gorgeous plum-hued gown. “Becky, you look fantastic,” I told her when I was finished … “I KNOW!!!!” she said! That’s how I know it’s been a good day.

Ashley was a seriously stunning bride on the outside, but her sweet love for her husband Michael and their beautiful baby girl Liv shone through and gave her a natural glow that no makeup can fake. I’m blessed to have been a part of such a lovely occasion!

Thank you to Ashley and Michael for sharing their day with Beauty&theBlush and a very special thank you to the crazy-talented couple at Joie Du Jour Photography of New Orleans for capturing these perfect images!

WED {Claire}

29 May

Claire & Jason said “I Do” in a glamorous ceremony at the beautiful Piazza in the Village on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

Claire’s gorgeous olive complexion looked even more stunning with the airbrush and her dark eyes sparkled with a heavy metallic greige and brown smokey eye. Pair that with  peachy-bronze cheek bones and a nude-mauve lip and she was ready to walk down the aisle!

{Mrs. Claire George}

This wedding was especially meaningful to me because it was my second wedding for this family. Last summer, I was the makeup artist for Claire’s sister-in-law, Jessica {seen at Jessica’s wedding here}.

Meaningful and bittersweet. As a makeup artist, I get to spend the most important, special and celebrated day of a family’s life with them, and because of that, I get to really know a family. Shortly after Claire’s wedding, her wonderfully sweet and loving mom, Patricia, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I will always remember Mrs. Pena as one of my favorite (and kindest) mother-of-the-bride clients … she just loved her false eyelashes and getting made up! And I had the good fortune of having her in my chair not just once, but twice.
